Scholarship Committee

Our Story

The Carson Cummings Film Scholarship was established in 2013 to honor the memory of Carson Ross Cummings of Austin, Texas. Carson was an avid filmmaker throughout his life. Each year, the Scholarship Committee awards three college scholarships to local graduating high school seniors through a short film competition. Our incredibly talented scholarship recipients have shown a passion for filmmaking similar to Carson's own. Since 2013, the Carson Cummings Film Scholarship Committee has awarded over $102,000 in college scholarships to 20+ aspiring high school filmmakers in Austin, Texas.

From 2013 - 2016, the scholarship was available only to graduating seniors of Anderson High School - Carson’s Alma Mater.

In 2017, the scholarship broadened its outreach to include McCallum H.S and Austin H.S in the film competition.

In 2018, the Carson Cummings Scholarship Committee welcomes the addition of Film Producers Josh Crook and Ron Perlman from Wing and A Prayer Pictures - providing an unparalleled platform for our students to showcase their filmmaking prowess to industry professionals.

In 2019, Violet Crown Cinema Austin partnered with the CRC Film Scholarship, providing a free theater to screen our Scholarship Films. Thank you Violet Crown Austin!

In 2020, we are proud to include Akins, Crockett, and The Ann Richards School in the film scholarship competition.
